About the project

The Danube region holds unique potential as a hub for inclusive peacebuilding. Spanning 14 countries and home to over 115 million people, the Danube has historically served as a bridge between Eastern and Western Europe — a shared thread of culture, heritage, and cooperation running through diverse communities. Yet the region also faces real challenges: historical divides, socio-economic disparities, and, most urgently, the impact of the war in Ukraine.

 

DANUBE PEACE is a two-year Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership (2025–2027) that responds to these challenges by strengthening adult educators through intergenerational and inclusive peace education rooted in Danube heritage and EU values. The project supports diverse adults and communities — including those displaced by war — by equipping educators with practical tools for peacebuilding, social cohesion, and post-conflict recovery.

 

What we’re doing:

  • Mapping opportunities for peace education and collaboration across the Danube region
  • Producing a series of animated explainer videos that make peacebuilding concepts accessible to diverse audiences
  • Developing Open Educational Resources (OERs) — a modular curriculum on peacebuilding, culture, and civic engagement for adult educators
  • Building the DANUBE PEACE Network, a sustainable cross-border community connecting educators and cultural actors across the region
  • Delivering training events, including an international training in Berlin, to build lasting capacity for peace education

One Network. Five Countries. Shared Action for Peace.

The DANUBE PEACE Network connects adult educators, cultural actors, organisations and local communities across Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia.

Through local networks, facilitators and shared action plans, members exchange knowledge, develop community-based initiatives and support the long-term sustainability of peace education across the Danube region.

Together, we combine expertise in youth and adult education, digital storytelling, civic engagement, cultural heritage, and post-conflict reconciliation — grounded in lived experience from Ukraine’s present struggle for peace and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s long-term journey of reconciliation.

 

Our vision:

A Danube region where shared cultural heritage becomes a practical foundation for dialogue, inclusion, and resilience — and where adult educators are equipped and empowered to lead that change in their own communities.
